Stefano Martellos is an Associate Professor in Systematic Botany. His research interests focus on biodiversity informatics biodiversity informatics, taxonomy, and the ecology of lichenised fungi. He has published several papers in international scientific journals, co-authored several books — some of which devoted to laypersons — on botanical themes. He was the inventor of the first patent of the University of Trieste for the identification of classifiable objects, such as plant and animal organisms, minerals, and more. He is a member of several scientific associations, including the National Association of Scientific Museums (ANMS).
