Biography of Carlo Stuparich

Carlo Stuparich (Trieste 3 August 1894 - Monte Cengio/Asiago Plateau 30 May 1916) was a poet, man of letters, patriot and volunteer in the Italian army during the First World War. World War. He died by suicide in order not to fall prisoner at the end of a war action in which all the comrades of the platoon he commanded had previously died or been wounded. He was awarded a gold medal for military valour.
