Biography of Vladimiro Miletti

Vladimiro Miletti was a writer, poet, music critic and journalist.

Born in Trieste in 1913 to a family originally from Dalmatia, after finishing school, he enrolled in a course of economics and business and was hired as official by Lloyd Triestino di Navigazione, one of the most important shipping companies operating at the time.

He began writing poetry at a very young age and when not even twenty years old, joined the Futurist Movement, which was enjoying a period of great popularity in Trieste at the time, from 1922 to 1932, with the events promoted by Bruno Giordano Sanzin, also involving Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, who, already in 1908, had taken part in a conference at the People’s University, advocating the Italian University in Trieste.

In 1933, Miletti in Rome, at an art exhibition, Miletti presented some “decorative poems” and in 1934 was awarded the silver medal at the First Poetry Competition of Giulia organised by Trieste City Council: on this occasion, Miletti met the “Academician of Italy” Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, Chairman of the Selection Board.

In 1937, Miletti composed “Fughe nei secondi. Poesie sportive”, a futurist text that sought to promote 20 different sports, each illustrated by his cousin Tullio Crali with great expressive strength.

As the Second World War broke out, Miletti headed off to fight at the front and his writings throughout this period were irremediably lost.

Author of both poems and prose, ironic and irreverent in their rhythm that sounds much as though it were dictated by musical counterpoint, he collaborated assiduously with newspapers and journals, writing articles and reviews, in particular about jazz music in Italy. He spoke on radio and at the Club of Culture and Arts of Trieste.

Vladimiro Miletti died in Trieste in 1985.
