His research interests focus on biodiversity informatics biodiversity informatics, taxonomy, and the ecology of lichenised fungi. He has published several papers in international scientific journals, co-authored several books \u2014 some of which devoted to laypersons \u2014 on botanical themes. He was the inventor of the first patent of the University of Trieste for the identification of classifiable objects, such as plant and animal organisms, minerals, and more.
